Drone Surveying for Large and Detail-Heavy Sites

Some sites are just too big, too rough, or too packed with detail to capture efficiently on foot. That’s where the drone comes in. Our FAA-certified pilot flies the same LiDAR-equipped drone whether we’re mapping five acres or five hundred, then hands that data straight to the same team of surveyors who’d otherwise be out there with a rod and a gun. Nothing gets outsourced. Nothing gets handed off to a subcontractor. It’s just a faster way to see the whole site before we ever set foot on it.

Real Coordinates, Captured From the Air

The drone’s LiDAR sensor can see through heavy New England tree cover most cameras can’t, and it ties every point back to real GNSS coordinates as it flies. What comes out the other end, orthomosaic imagery, 3D models, elevation data, lands in the exact same title block and format you’d get from a boots-on-the-ground survey. A 100-acre property that would take our crew about two weeks to walk and shoot traditionally? The drone covers that same ground in about an hour. That time doesn’t replace our fieldwork, it feeds it. We come back with more detail to work with, not less.

Built for Bigger, More Detailed Projects

Drone surveying earns its keep on:

  • $

Large residential developments, especially early due-diligence mapping before a full survey is committed to

  • $

Commercial properties packed with detail: parking fields, multiple buildings, tight sightlines

  • $

Phased grading projects that need real soil volume numbers, not estimates

  • $

Anything north of 5 acres, or smaller sites with an unusual amount of ground detail

For a smaller, more open lot, a traditional survey is still usually the faster, more practical call, and we’ll tell you that straight if that’s your situation.

Licensed Surveyors, Not Just Drone Operators

Our pilot holds an FAA Part 107 commercial license and has logged 6 years flying specifically for surveying work, stacked on top of the team’s full surveying background. That combination is the whole point: you’re not handing your project to a drone company that happens to know a surveyor. You’re working with the same licensed surveyors either way, they’re just collecting the data with a different tool.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a drone survey as accurate as a traditional survey?

L
K
Yes. The drone captures data using real-time GNSS positioning, and everything comes back in the same title block and format as a traditional survey.

Are there restrictions on where a drone can fly?

L
K
Generally, yes. Drones can’t operate within 5 miles of an airport without special clearance, which can affect timelines on some sites.

What do we receive as a deliverable?

L
K
Orthomosaic imagery, 3D models, and elevation data, all delivered in the same survey format and title block you’d expect from a traditional survey.
